School Activities Spread Halloween Spirit
STUCO, School Administration and Staff, organized a variety of activities for students from Lower Elementary thru High School to celebrate Halloween at The Columbus School on October 28.
Activities varied from races, competitions and inflatables. Students enjoyed the activities and were very thankful for the dedication of the people who organized the event.
“I would rate the day as a 10 because it was very fun, cool and we participated a lot,” Antonia Mejía, K5 student, said.
In Lower Elementary, activities were based on inflatables and hands on activities for the students.
“We had dance, and big inflatables. But those were the only ones that I saw because some activities were hidden,” Mejía, said.
Other activities in Lower Elementary included canopies, an inflatable climbing wall, duck & jump game, control remote cars, an inflatable climbing mountain with a slide and a soccer game you played while inside an inflatable filled with balls. The younger students had a lot of fun between jumping in the inflatables, dancing and playing together in groups.
“I would’ve changed the inflatable climbing wall because it was very small. You could only climb 2 meters which is very little,” Matías Mejía, 4th grade student, said.
It appeared that all of the planning that went into the event was a success. Students had few complaints and clearly enjoyed this day. Some even mentioned that the day was too short for them to enjoy all of the activities.
“We had a very positive change from last year since the game in which you jumped and ducked changed from metallic poles to inflatable ones,” Matias Mejía said.
In Middle School, activities were also around the inflatable theme with inflatable slides, a Slip n’ Slide and soccer games. Students also enjoyed a simple Slip n’ Slide and the Jump and Duck game, just like elementary students.
“The activity in which you jumped and ducked was fun, but there was always a long of line,” Mejia said.
Several Middle and High School students also mentioned that the day was too short.
“It was a positive experience! I really enjoyed it, I felt like a kid again,” Maria de los Angeles Delgado, TCS 11th grader, said.
In high school activities included a hot dog eating contest, relays, tug of war and a steep and messy ‘Slide of Doom’. Contests were organized by grade level and encouraged teamwork and fair play. According to Andres Rendon, TCS High School Counselor, all these activities had a simple purpose, to be inclusive, empower students and demonstrate the safe use of free time.
The organization was complex.
“A lot of things have to be taken into consideration for these activities. All of the logistics with maintenance, the sound systems, digging the holes and filling them with water, the slides full of water and soap with the plastic set up and the materials bought,” Rendon said.
