Led by goals from Maria Guzman, Mar Porto, Isabel Mora, and two from Sofia Barrientos, team dominated from the start winning the championship in an exciting match played in front of many TCS students, parents and faculty.
“Many people are seeing and supporting you, which makes you play better and give your best. This is an achievement for the team, but also personally as it shows us what we can do and what we need to improve,” Sofia Barrientos, 7th grade student, said.
Teamwork was one of the most important factors that contributed to winning the championship, according to the coach. Although teamwork was evident, the coach also highlighted individual talents, who contributed greatly to the team’s win.
“I developed my position in an effective way, helping the team and getting out champions…. And scoring goals!” Isabel Mora, 8th grade student, said.
Along the way to the championship match, the TCS girls defeated Vermont 3-2 in their first match, tied Colegio Padre Manyanet 2-2 in the second, the game which qualified them for the final against Cumbres. The team’s undefeated 2-1-0 record in the tournament led them to the championship.
“It makes me feel satisfied and it reflects all the training sessions where the girls applied themselves to improve. It is the result and the effort of many moments, training in the rain, in the sun and in many adverse conditions,” Wilson Jair Mejia, TCS Girls Middle School Soccer Head Coach, said.
