Representing the school on one of its biggest stages yet, the boys’ soccer team traveled to Cali for the Binational Games, ready to give their all against formidable opponents from across the region. Through every challenge, their journey was defined by hard work, camaraderie, and the unwavering belief that they could rise to the occasion.
“We focused on building chemistry on and off the field,” Coach Urbano Mesa explained. “Our strategy wasn’t just about tactics—it was about creating trust and a shared sense of purpose among the players.”
Months of preparation had gone into ensuring the team was ready for the games. Their bond was tested early in the tournament when they found themselves trailing in a crucial match.
“We could’ve easily crumbled, but instead, we rallied together,” Emilio Mesa, a key player, said. “Everyone stepped up, and we reminded ourselves that we weren’t just playing for ourselves—we were playing for each other and our school.”
That unity became their foundation during tough moments. Team captain Tomas Arrubla highlighted the importance of staying united.
“When things got tough, we didn’t let it break us. We used those moments to push harder,” he said.
The team’s preparation and resilience paid off, with standout moments reflecting their growth. From last-minute saves to perfectly executed goals, their collective effort shone.
“There’s no single star on this team,” Coach Mesa said proudly. “Every player contributed in their own way, and that’s what made us strong.”
For the boys, representing their school was an honor and a challenge they embraced wholeheartedly. Emilio emphasized the emotional weight and motivation of representing their community.
“You feel the weight of it, but it’s also what pushes you to give your best,” he shared.
The importance of sportsmanship became a key lesson as the tournament progressed. Tomas reflected on what they had gained beyond the scorelines.
“We learned a lot about respecting our opponents and growing from every match,” Tomas said.
Whether celebrating wins or navigating defeats, the players demonstrated maturity and grace, showing that true victory goes beyond results.
“The Binational Games weren’t just about soccer,” Coach Mesa summed up. “They were about growth, resilience, and proving to ourselves what we’re capable of as a team.”
With their determination, unity, and heart, the boys’ soccer team showed that their journey was about much more than just the game.
