So Many Browsers, So Little Time
Internet is fundamental in every student’s life. It works as a base for their academic lives by being a source of information, as a platform to compose essays and other types of work, and by accessing academic social networks like Schoology. According to the Telegraph newspaper, teenagers spend more than 27 hours a week on the internet.
In addition to academics, the internet keeps students connected with friends and family through social networks, email, and video calls. The internet works as a method for communication in modern times, changing the way people communicate toward platforms such as Facebook, Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp, twitter, and much more.
Internet is also a common source of entertainment. Netflix, Cuevana, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Spotify and many more apps are popular with TCS students. According to Forbes magazine, US teenagers use the internet an average of 9 hours a day for entertainment purposes. Internet affects their daily lives in almost every aspect, making it a necessary resource.
As the internet is so incessantly used, choosing the best browser can save a lot of time. Imagine how much time can be saved each week, each year, or even in a lifetime, by just by changing to the browser that will best meet your needs.
Google Chrome
Pros:
Google Chrome is one of the most modern and common browsers in the world, used by 52% of internet users. Chrome’s compatibility with Google apps makes it much faster and better when using these. On average, page load time and platform speed are faster than Firefox and Safari. Chrome’s platform is stable and reliable, having minimum errors or lags. Its installation is easier than the other web browsers, being light and easy to install; as well a secure and available option in most devices.
Cons:
Google Chrome’s disadvantages are few and not a major factor when choosing a web browser. Chrome’s biggest disadvantage is its huge memory use, which affects the speed of the computer. It may affect a user’s experience but Google is constantly improving this with updates. Security may sometimes be compromised in Google Chrome, which can put personal information in danger. Finally, Chrome isn’t slow but some browser are faster.
Mozilla Firefox
Pros:
Mozilla Firefox is fast, similar to Google Chrome. Mozilla’s design is modern and attractive, making for a pleasant user experience. It is also a reliable web browser with an excellent performance when surfing the web. Along with these fundamental benefits, it is an excellent and secure choice as a browser.
Cons:
Mozilla has little defects, such as not being supported in some older computers due to its modern and sophisticated interface. With no iOS syncing, Mozilla might not be the best option when owning an iOS device like a MacBook or ipad, having poor compatibility with these devices. Mozilla has also become a bit outdated, not being the most modern and developed browser due to its complexity and poor compatibility
Safari
Pros:
Safari is not the fastest browser but is does have excellent speed, similar to Google Chrome and Firefox. Its main advantage is its compatibility with Apple devices, having their information synced in all of their devices. Safari, an average browser, makes a decent job in the rest of the aspects, with its main advantage being compatibility.
Cons:
Safari’s main disadvantage is it inablitity to function in non-Apple devices, making it a good option only for Apple users. Safari does a decent job in the rest of the aspects such as speed, security, stability and privacy; making it average rather than outstanding.
Best Web Browser for using at school: Google Chrome
Google Chrome is the best option for using at school, mainly because of its compatibility with google apps used by the school.
“For school, which uses google accounts, google chrome is recommended due to its compatibility and excellent functionality; meanwhile its problems such as high memory use are being solved,” Juan Pablo Vallejo, TCS Tech Support Team member, said.
Aside from its compatibility, Google is excellent in most aspects, making it the best browser as a whole.
“Google Chrome fits perfectly with the google account the school uses. Google is fast, safe, and in terms of reliability is one of the best,” John Ferney Higuita, TCS Middle School Technology teacher, said.
