SAT Season in Full Swing
78 students will take the Pre-SAT and SAT exams this fall in order to apply to universities and obtain scholarships outside Colombia.
The exams will be administered at TCS on December 3, March 11, May 6 and June 3. Some students already took the exams on August 27 and October 1. Most students recently started their preperation for the test and are looking for scholarships in Europe and US colleges.
“A good score would be 1300 out of 1600, with this score the acceptance of a scholarship for a student would be higher as well as the applications for IVY league colleges,” Dina Rechani, HS College Advisor, said.
Most students prepare by purchasing an official study guide that includes reading, writing, language, and math.
“From what I have tried studying on my own with the official SAT book, I think it is the best choice you can possibly get,” Ian Dominguez, 12 Grader, said.
Several universities are not requiring the test anymore as they are taking into consideration other factors such as grades or social hours after students couldn’t do the test for so long during the pandemic.
“Although several universities are not requiring the test, having a good score will always be seen as a plus and as an advantage for your college applications,” Rechani said.
SAT test scores will be available after 2-4 weeks at 8 a.m. ET. While PSAT exams should be released around the first weeks of December. Students can look at their grades by checking the College Board website.
“Getting a 1250 out of 1500, that was ratherly amazing I thought I was going to do way worse,” Camilo Correa, 11 Grader, said
The Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT) is a program of evaluation intended to measure literacy, numeracy and writing skills that will result in advantages in the college application process.
“It’s been always argued that a test can’t measure how good you are. Maybe you have the ability to do other things but you are not a good test-taker and a test should not decide your future,” Rechani said.
The Pre Scholastic Aptitude Tests (PSAT/Pre-SAT) is a program where students have the chance to study and get prepared for the actual SAT in a realistic setting. Students can take multiple PSAT’s to be ready for the SAT, because the scores will not make any difference on the applications.
“Doing the PSAT allows you to have an idea of how a standardized test works as it shows you the type of questions you’ll be tested on,” Correa said.
