Columbus School High School Girls Basketball team won their first match of the season against Marymount School on September 20, at Marymount.

The match was a clear win for the Columbus team, 16 to 4. Most of the players scored, but there were some who stood out more than others according to the trainer David Andrey Lopez. Some of the outstanding players were 10th grader Isabella Murillo and 11th graders Ana Maria Jaramillo and Laura Arango.

“Actually we won, and we played really well, all of the members were helping each other,” Ana Maria Jaramillo, 11th-grade student and new member of the Basketball team stated.

Some players were really pleased with the way they played during the match but others were disappointed by the way they managed the ball at the court.

“I didn’t play a lot, but the time I played I felt I could’ve done a better job,”  11th grader Luisa Mejia Gomez, new member of the team stated.

Since it’s the beginning of the season the team hasn’t had a lot of training sessions, once they train more the strategies they use in the matches and the way they play as a team can improve.

“I think we played very well but since we are just starting we hadn’t had much training, so I think we could’ve played better,” Mariana Correa, 11th grade student said.

Regardless each player’s quality during the game, the team played as one and everyone was really united, stated the players.

The game was really fun and there was a connection, said Ana Maria Jaramillo, Everything was great.

The trainer, David Andrey Lopez, saw an improvement in both strategy and attitude in the girls since the beginning of the season regardless the few training.

“The team has been playing more united and with concentration. They do the work the trainer asks them to do and they don’t go out and make up other tactics,” David Andrey Lopez, coach of High School girls Basketball team stated.

Many of the girls were worried about David’s reaction after the match, but they were still happy about the win.

“I think David was a little disappointed because we failed a lot of hoops, and the other team was actually not that good, but I guess a win is a win,” Luisa Mejia said.
