Does TCS properly prepare students?

The Columbus School has a rich history of sending numerous students to top-ranking schools worldwide. Yet, it’s important to know how they are trying to prepare students to overcome challengings by providing help from teachers or college counselors.

College counselors like Dina play a crucial role in guiding students through the university application process and preparing them for the challenges of the future. Alongside teachers, they provide essential support by assisting students with university choices, application strategies, and career planning. Additionally, teachers are instrumental in preparing students for significant exams such as the SAT, ICFES, and AP exams, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success. Together, these professionals ensure that students are well-prepared and informed as they navigate their educational journey and transition into higher education and beyond.

It’s important to recognize that the school is constantly helping out students by providing access to various resources, such as a free college counselor like Dina. This assistance has benefited many students, as Dina consistently holds meetings and presentations to guide them through their academic journey. She not only assists seniors in 12th grade but also reaches out to younger students, offering insight into what they can expect in the future. Furthermore, Dina has implemented a streamlined system that facilitates easy scheduling of meetings with both students and their parents. She assists students by presenting them with options and providing support in areas of their interest. This proactive approach has helped many students feel more comfortable and relaxed, knowing they can rely on a dependable resource.

“As an 11th grader, I have experienced a lot of stress and struggled with figuring out my career path and where I will study in the future. But in times like these, I always speak or text Dina, and I end up gaining a better understanding. It really helps me know how to prepare myself for the future because of all the resources I receive from her,” Luciana Vallejo, grade 11, said.

The Spanish teacher is helping students get ready for big tests like the ICFES. She gives them practice tests and explains what the real exams will be like. This helps students feel more confident and ready for the challenges ahead. By showing them what to expect on exam day, she makes sure they’re well-prepared. Her support not only improves their skills but also makes them feel sure of themselves, ready to do their best when it counts. Also, this helps in familiarizing students with the exam structure and content not only for ICFES but also help give students a sense of preparedness and assurance, equipping them for the challenges that lie ahead.

“Erika, our 12th-grade Spanish teacher, inspires us with her commitment to preparing us for success in exams like the ICFES. With her guidance and support, we feel confident and ready for any challenge that comes our way,” Felipe Franco, grade 11, said.

The preparation of students for college-level requirements is greatly aided by AP classes. These courses immerse students in a demanding academic setting and offer a wealth of examples of what college life is like and how to succeed in it. Students are exposed to college-level tests and assignments under the direction of committed professors, providing them with the information and skills needed for further study. Teachers put a lot of work into helping students in topics like AP Chemistry; they provide plenty of practice examinations and clear instructions to make sure students are ready for difficult exams. Their dedication extends beyond the classroom, enabling learners to flourish and achieve their academic goals.

“Even with the lack of time and everything, I have been trying to do zoom meetings and giving them practice exams that look similar to the AP exam or making them do final exams so they can have a clear mindset on what they should prepare for,”  David Schas, Ap Chemistry teacher, said.

It’s critical to acknowledge Columbus School’s continuous efforts to assist pupils in becoming ready for their futures. Many kids have voiced worries about choosing their chosen routes, but the school has given them access to a highly qualified college counselor in order to allay their fears. Furthermore, teachers—especially those teaching challenging courses like AP Chemistry or AP Spanish—are crucial in helping students be ready for exams. These teachers assist students in understanding what to expect and how to properly prepare for significant tests by setting high standards for their exams.
