Better Technology, Better Control

Extracurricular classes will be more accessible and will be linked with schoology and power columbus. Technology department is working on modifying the way extracurricular classes attendance is made, changing it from its current manual form, to a computer platform.

Currently, extracurricular classes work on a separate google program with a different application form. Technology department is working to make all this classes link together in the same web page were every aspect can be managed without needing to go on different web sites. It’s also going to reduce manual work, as well as human errors. The change is programed to occur somewhere near four months, mean while a server capable to offer all the requirements is being searched in order to execute this change.

The platform upgrade was a necessary change that focuses on reducing work and having a better control over extracurricular classes. It will provide more security on kids’ safety, and a better control over kids attendance in after-school classes.

“We wanted to have a digital platform for attendance, so we would know if students were missing,if they were absent, how often they were absent, and not have it just on paper,” Freddy Badillo, Athletic Director, said.

The update will reduce manual work, therefore reducing human errors on the calculations made. Not only teachers and staff will be positively affected, but also parents will experiment the change made.

“At first you will be able to see the changes in Columbus Life as we work on it, but in the long term, every school user will be able to feel this impactful change,”  Gorge Londoño, project analyst, said.

The modification of the platform has been discussed throughout time, but it’s a process that takes lots of procedures and time, in order for it to be totally finished.

“We need to take requirments, make an analysis, have various meetings. Next we have to search for a server that can provided what’s needed, then hire that server and lastly  trials have to be done before we start to change the platform,” Londoño, project analyst, said.

As technology improves each day, the school does so as well. Each day Technology Department is looking forward to facilitate and reduce manual work, and to enhance each online program and facilitate things for everyone.

“We’re just trying to improve each time. In fact it might all be done through power school. We’re still looking at that,” Badillo, Athletic Director, said.
