Grandparents’ Day Celebrated in 1st Grade
Grandparents’ Day was held in 1st grade on September 19th as Columbus School students hosted their grandparents for a celebration that included performances, gifts and food.
Grandparents’ Day is for students to show their appreciation to their elders by making them more involved in their lives.
“When my granddaughter talked about me I almost cried… a moment that’ll never leave my mind,” grandparent Oscar Bonnett said.
The kids had been working the last two weeks for the activities they had prepared for their grandparents included a skit, songs, and a dance routine.
“The kids sang songs about grandparents, asked them to dance, and gave them gifts they manually made,” Diana Mitchell, TCS Elementary Vice-Principal, said.
Everything took a lot of time to make, but the grandparents thought the gift was the best and most significant part of the day.
“I loved the gift, I will keep it forever. It was divine, that was my favorite part of the evening, a beautiful letter and a framed picture,” grandparent Oriata Saldarriaga, said.
The endless weeks of planning were worth it, everyone left proud. And most importantly, the grandparents noticed the massive preparation.
“There is progress shown from generation to generation,” grandparent William Garcia said.
Plus, all this made them realize how fast their grandchildren are growing up and the amount of importance this moments are.
“Realizing they are growing up from babies to little people is even more touching,” Saldarriaga said.
But even though everything went according to plan, the kids’ heads were all over the place in the beginning.
“My boys didn’t realize the amount of adults that were going to be here,” Jonathan Keeler, 1E Teacher, said.
At the end everything was kisses, hugs, tears, and massive smiles.
“I found an amazing group of grandchildren who filled pieces of my heart,” Bonnett said.
