Cafeteria Revolutionizes Meal Plan
The cafeteria service in Elementary School known as ServiExpress changed things up in the menu, presentation and setting for kids to enjoy and foment a healthy food plan.
Although the wait for papers and permissions was endless, the effort by the cafeteria ladies to prepare the meals is way longer, and it took some time for people to settle in, the new cafeteria plan is running smoothly.
“It’s different now because we put in our hearts, devotion, inspiration, and effort. Since the new plan was established, we haven’t received any complaints,” Viviana Caro, ServiExpress Manager, said.
The Elementary School cafeteria has changed from only menu of the day to: Everyday menu of the day; Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays bbq; Tuesdays’ pasta bar; and Wednesdays mexican.
“Kids feel bored and want to have the same 7 options “big kids” we have. They were bored with the same looks and taste,” Sara Suarez, Cafeteria Lady, said.
Since starting in 2011, ServiExpress has increased from 7 subscribers to 350.
“The cafeteria admissions by students have increased 20% since we changed the plan, we are now serving 350 subscribers, which based on what we know, are all happy customers,” Caro said.
But most importantly, the whole purpose of this change isn’t based on the number of subscribers, its whole purpose is to educate kids with healthy diets and food plans for them to grow up with the same intentions.
“This will help kids with their formation because if in this stage of their lives they learn how to eat well, a lot of positive outcomes can come in the future. They will be more healthy, happy and responsible with their nutrition habits,” Suarez said.
These types of changes have already come out to the public. Everyone is already noticing improvements in students.
“My little brother came back on the program after seeing his friends having such a good time. He is now extremely happy and has only positive things to say about the entire cafeteria,” 8th Grader, Elena Martinez, said.
All the trouble they went through has apparently paid off. Parents are sending congratulation and thank you letters, kids seem to have fun, and teachers stopped worrying about whether if their students were eating healthy or not.
“Thanks to all the work put in by our staff, every goal we have has already a check mark on it,” Caro said.
This improvement came directly from the cafeteria ladies themselves, they worked hard since day 1 of noticing the problem.
“After studying the situation we came through; we enlarge food options, meal plans, and we try to create not only a safe and nutritious meal but an experience as well,” Suarez said.
