A CAFETERIA OUT OF CONTROL

Rushing to be the first ones in line when the lunch bell rings creates a chaos in the asados queue. Because teachers on duty are not adequately monitoring the line, fights and disorder are getting out of control.

A messy line formed by hungry, egocentric students, affects effectiveness in cafeteria work, and also creates a great unconformity in cafeteria administrators and customers. Bringing adolescents into order is a hard task for the cafeteria employees, as students think they are superior.

“Sometimes some students want to cut in the long Asados line and the other ones get mad,” Beatriz Lenis, cafeteria employee in charge of the Asados area explains. “Some students without a strong character let others cut in line and the ones that get mad immediately start a fight.”

Lenis went on to explain how the five pillars of the school are not being represented by the students’ actions in cafeteria lines as students are not just trying to manipulate to their classmates but also to the TCS cafeteria employees.

“Sometimes a student cuts the entire line, and tries to influence me,” Lenis explained.” They often tell me ‘Betty attend me first, you know I am a loyal customer,’ they try to convince me by saying that no one will realize I’m helping them.”

Even though this problem is caused by the students, ServiExpress employees are the ones that receive a direct consequence.

“When Don Augusto, the owner of ServiExpress comes in and supervises break times, he always gets frustrated; he reminds the cash lady that the customer that registers to buy something should always go last in the line in order to receive their order.” Claimed Sara Suárez, the youngest employee from the TCS’ cafeteria.

Cafeteria employees state that the solution towards this problem might be in the teacher’s on duty actions and labor.

“We have tried to talk with Mr. Juan David (Middle School principal) and with Mr. Arababi (High School principal), in order for a teacher to be the entire lunch specifically in charge of the asados line, which is a place that goes out of control,” Suárez protests, realizing that teacher have way more authority over students, than the employees have.
