Young Chorists Prepare for End of School Year Concert

The end of school year elementary concert has the whole TCS musical community preparing for an all time school classic in memorial of a passing school year.

This performance has been almost a tradition to say the least, where the Elementary School choir, which goes from K5 to 5th grade, joins the Middle School and High School band to play multiple songs. Months of preparation and practice hide behind the no more than an hour presentation which will be taking place on May 31st. The entire school community is invited and will hopefully be assisting.

“In the music department we make two big presentations; the first one is at Christmas, which is the concert at candle night, the second one is the one we do at the end of the school year”, Ana Beatriz Giraldo, K4 to 1st grade music teacher commented.

The young chorists have been preparing since the first quarter with no more than their wish and enjoyment for music and musical training. By sacrificing their recess, the K5 students and the 1st graders have dedicated 1 and 2 breaks a week respectively for such passion.

“As preparation we do not demand anything in general, but to have the motivation. We start from the point of ‘if I really like or want, I can sacrifice my time, for something I enjoy’ which is to learn to sing,” Giraldo said, “The idea is for the children to begin to enjoy all the vocal work from their passion itself.”

Eventually, as the kids start growing, there begins to be more vocal work and development which basically still goes along with the liking of the students for the choir. The young ones have more of a basic preparation but as they increase in grade, the focus centers more on each member’s voice. Many of the children have joined the choir with the novelty of belonging to such group or for other external reasons.

Nicolas Capmartin, K5 student belonging to the choir responded simply when asked about what made him enter to the musical group [as well as almost all the children in the practice], “I really like singing.”
