TCS Library Grand Opening

A grand opening ceremony for the new MS/HS library was held on November 1 and attended by approximately 40 people, including students, staff, parents and members of the TCS Board of Directors.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, done by high school student Ilana Garza, speeches were made by Superintendent Ruth Allen, Personero Federico Jaramillo and alumnus Eliana Lopez. Guests were treated to a tour of the new facility, refreshments and music provided by the TCS High School Band.

Welcome to the future, welcome to our dreams. But really this is on the one hand the fulfillment of a dream, because it is actually the inspiration for all those dreams that are going to come, it is generally accepted that libraries are no longer places just where you keep information that ́s what used to be, libraries are now places where you connect, create and inspire,” Allen said.

Building the HS library wasn’t an easy task. The project was approved in 2015 and from that moment a library committee was created consisting of students, teachers, parents who were designers or architects and the librarians. The committee started developing the idea but the project stopped in 2018 for lack of money.

“Although building the library had many difficulties, I think the result exceeded the expectations of all the people who were part of this project. Everything from the design, technology and innovation made the project a success and that the concept of connect, create and inspire can spread throughout the entire school,”  Connie Gonzales, HS Librarian, said.

The ribbon was cut by 9th grade student Ilana Garza who had the highest number of checked out books last year.  She was surprised when her name was called by alumnus Eliana Lopez.

I really enjoyed the ceremony I was really honored to hear my name called and to have the honor of cutting the ribbon. I just think everything was very well presented and very organized,” Garza said.

Parents were also impressed with the new facility and the opportunities it offers. The materials used in the floor, chairs and tables have a unique and futuristic design that provides students a better academic environment where their creativity and study capacity will flourish.

I hope students can inspire here because is a beautiful space where they can do anything they want, and I also hope parents feel welcomed here and come explore new books and stuff,” Sofia Balladares HS Parent, said.
