MUN is F-U-N

It’s the beginning of the school year and the MUN club in the Columbus school are trying to recruit new people. Members might ask, “Why should I do MUN?”

During CEMUN(La Enseñanza MUN) that took place on 18-20 September, 21 students participated in every commision except Sochum.

The following students were given honorable delegate awards: Alejandro Gómez(11th), Juan Felipe Gaviria(10th), Pablo Monsalve(12th), Salome Beyer(9th). Another price that was given was the best speaker award that was given to Camila Ceballos(9th)

“It develops leadership skills. MUN is an exercise in research, public speaking, and teamwork. ” said Salome Beyer, a 9th grade student.

These are skills that you will need throughout your career, and MUN gives you a chance to practice them while you’re a student. You can use your MUN experience to get into college and find jobs, many job interviewers search for examples of leadership.

“No matter how many Model UN conferences I attend, I’m always a little amazed” said Beyer.

These is one of the many students that could be hanging out at home, watching TV, or playing video games, and instead they suit up, work on their weekends, and develop solutions to the world’s most important problems.

“Model UN motivates, educates students and makes them more aware of the world around them. It helps them develop or acquire new skills altogether. Students are our future” said Erika Atehortua 12th grade Spanish and Literature teacher.

Students are constantly  learning from each other, they argue or give speeches in order to give their ideas about a certain subject. They are also constantly making new friends from lots of schools, even some of the smartest kids from their respective country.

“Great participation from part of the Columbus delegation, we hope to see our UN community growing more and more each time” said Atehortua
