Dia del Idioma Tradition Continues at TCS

TCS Dia del Idioma took place Friday in the TCS theater as Middle Schoolers performed poems, plays, stories, dances, and showcased art.

TCS community prepared to celebrate the International Dia del Idioma Español as an honored tradition. Despite the festival being and annual tradition, every year its unique and has more content than the last year. This year there were lots of new and innovative details that helped the festival achieve success. Including unique presentation divided into categories depending on the grade.

“Something different of this year’s festival is that every student its celebrating and demonstrating their sense of belonging by wearing t-shirts they design and paint themselves that highlight a unique aspect of the Spanish language; 6th graders painted Refranes, 7th graders the painted Piropos, and 8th graders painted rare Spanish words, ” Marta Vargas, 7th Grade Spanish Teacher, said.

The festival’s main characters are the students, they were responsible for performing all the presentation with the help of the Spanish Teachers. This festival united Middle Schoolers as well as teachers into a common goal, reflect the rich culture of our language.

“The festival is celebrated by performing different activities such as traditional theater, tail-telling, poetry, and art, in which every performance is linked with the Spanish culture and language,”  Vargas said.

Despite the TCS being a mostly English language based school, and having at least sixty percent of the classes in English, they emphasize on making students have a sense of belonging not only with the Spanish language, but also with the culture it represents.

“The TCS is a multicultural school, and the Dia del Idiomas festival it’s a way to make our students comprehend the importance having excellence not only in English, but in Spanish as well,”

Marta Vargas directed the traditional festival as she has been doing. She puts tons of energy into this event in order to make it a success.

“The celebration of the Dia del Idioma has been a school tradition since its foundation. We try to make a cultural performance that reflects all the learning processes that students learn in their classes,” Vargas said.

The celebration was a complete success. There were a lot of preparations and hard work from students teacher, and staff. This made great poems, the plays, the tshirts, and the stories students presented on the event.

“The Dia del Idioma was not only a fun and interesting event, it made us realized the importance and the value of the culture that the Spanish Language represents,” Valentina Garces, 8th Grader, said.
