Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors prepare for the AP exams

Stressing, worrying and preparing is all that the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors at The Columbus School have been doing for the past weeks due to the AP exams.

For some students, Advanced Placement exams are the key to the future. Multiple universities accept the AP exams that the students take and exempt them from taking the class.  This means that students get extra stressed over passing this exam so they could get the opportunity to take fewer classes in the university. This is why the preparation for the exam is extra important.

“It is very stressful because we review a lot of the past exams so you get really nervous as to what is going to be on this years test,” said Sophmore Raquel Londoño.

Getting stressed is something that tends to happen before an exam, but it mostly happens when you don’t feel prepared for it. At school, some of the students feel more confident on the exam they are taking depending on the curse they took.

“I think I was always stressed but honestly at this point I know it’s coming so I’m not that stressed about it,” said Junior Andrea Fernandez.

The preparation for an AP exam is what will determine the grade you get on the exam due to the fact that this is advanced or better said college-level exams done to high schoolers all around the world.

“The preparation for the AP exams was good because the teacher sent us some forms that are going to help us with the multiple choice questions of the exam,” said Londoño.

It is important that students feel prepared for the exams, but sometimes teachers tend to teach some important material right before the exam, which makes students feel frustrated and unprepared.

“ I think some teachers spend too much time on units that are not going to be on the AP and now we are running out of time and they are trying to get everything on time, but there is no time,” said Fernandez.

Aside from what teachers give students to prepare some even look for their own resources like Khan Academy and Quizlet and are able to use them on their own time to prepare for the exams.

“ To prepare for my AP exam I used the practice quiz that my teacher gave me and reviewed the worksheets we had done over the years… on my own I did flashcards and used quizlet to learn the material,” said Senior Emilio Pelaez.

For some, it might be a stress, for others just a review but they are all prepared to finish the AP exams that they have been so desperately preparing for.

“ I am excited to see how the test turns out and how well I was actually prepared,” said Pelaez.
