K5 Participate in Chorus

Chorus, this is a way kids prove and show their singing skills, as well as their love towards music.

K5 students have this choice to participate in the chorus when they are pre schoolers. At  this moment they have the chance to figure out if they really like and/or are good for this kind of activities the school is providing for the students.

“In general the K5 students like and prefer coming to chorus, even though they need to choose between  going to their recess or coming to the chorus, only from K5 there are 45 students participating. ” Ana Beatriz Giraldo K5 and 1st grade chorus teacher, said.

This K5 students show a great interest on this activity (chorus), they really teach us the importance of being involved in school activities, even sacrificing their recess time in order to rehers. This shows how K5 students enjoy learning and being part of the different activities chorus has.

“Once a week, every friday during lunch recess the K5 students take more than half of their recess time in order to come chorus and practice.” Ana Beatriz Giraldo K5 and 1st grade chorus teacher, said.

When the K5 student are part of the chorus, they not only learn to sing, but they learn and practice values such as responsibility, citizenship, respect, teamwork, among others. During this activity they need to work on their own but at the same time they are a part of a group.

“In general, there are no problems with the K5 students but we need to work on their discipline, teach them to be a little bit more silent, and to be aware when is it they need to sing. As well as reinforce that belonging to the chorus is not only learning the songs, but learning that this is something we need to work out as a team.” Ana Beatriz Giraldo K5 and 1st grade chorus teacher, said.

Last but not least, as most of the small kids, the emotional part is very important in their lives. They like to be part of the chorus now that for them this is a new experience and they really enjoy singing the different songs, because they are related to their world.

When asked to Hoyos, Juanita what is it you like the most about singing and being part of the chorus? She answered “that the songs are pretty beautiful, and because when I sing the day of candle night, my grandparents, my parents, uncles, and my cousins will be there.”
