Exploring the unknown at Parque Explora

People mainly think of basic things: speaking, reading, writing, counting and other skills. Teachers believe that creativity is an invaluable ability of certain people that should be taken into advantage to its fullest in their younger years

Third Graders went to the Parque Explora, Friday March 2nd and then again on Tuesday the 7th. They went to see the innovation part of the park and get kids excited to move into the innovation convention unit. It is about the discovery and invention of  new things and ideas, which motivates students to be imaginative and step out of their box.

“What we´ve been trying to do this year is a Big Bang so, we start off with something really cool trying to get the kids hyped about our new unit we´ll be focusing on,” said Catherine Frayne, 3rd grade teacher.

When a student actually wants to learn or explore a topic, the educational process goes a lot smoother, that’s why teachers took their students to Parque Explora.

“We are going to Parque Explora because we are going to be starting our invention conventions unit, so we are looking at how do things work, we are looking at many things that have been created, and there is an inventions part in the park,” said Frayne.

Teachers can tell children to use their imagination to build a better world, to notice a problem and fix it, to find a way to make life easier and successfully doing it, to see beyond what is happening, to what might happen and to do something about it.

“With our current science unit we are working in the scientific method and we are going to be hoping to implement that when students create their own inventions, and then we have a big shark tank where they get to present the things that they created,” said Frayne.

From a very early age, children start to have the capacity of challenging life. While searching for new ideas, they keep their minds and hearts open, and build connections based on what they seen.

“We went to the park to see the “creative” part of the museum and we participated in the games that they did in the Park” said Gabriel Gutierrez, 3rd Grade student.

That’s why teachers are constantly trying to make students be interested about their topics to let them have a new perspective, see a problem that nobody knows it exists and find an effective solution to handle the problem.

“Explora was the highlight of our school year, learning like this is so worth it, I never thought I’d enjoy a field trip so much and actually learn, I hope they take us every year,” concluded Gutierrez.
