IAEA Fights for New Security Standards at Nuclear Plants

The committee of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began today´s session with a debate about the causes of the crisis in Germany caused by a leaking nuclear power plant.

“Be intelligent. We can’t keep killing the world,” Andrea Ochoa, Delegate of Luxemburg, said.

The Chief of M16, Alexander Younger, entered as a guest from the United Kingdom. He declared that after the investigation, conducted by M16, it was clear that Russia was holding back important information.

“How is t possible that delegations still believe that those actions will lead to disaster,” Tomas Ortiz, Delegate of Japan, said.

The delegate of Denmark accused the Russian Federation of inclusion in the events that destroyed power vents in the German power plant in Philippsburg. The delegate of Canada declared that only one power plant was checked and there could be a risk coming from other plants provided by the Russians.

“Turn off all nuclear powers and we will have a better world,“ Ochoa said.

The delegate of China announced that scientists believed a radiation had emerged from the southern Ural region. It went above countries such as Germany, France, Belarus, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and others.

“Instead of pointing fingers lets come up with a solution,”  Sofia Vasquez, Delegate of Belarus, said.

The delegates claim that Russia is the one to blame for the faulty power plant in Germany and the subsequent nuclear cloud. The delegate of Germany defended Russia, but argued that  instead of debating who was at fault, the council should debate how all of them could help.

The German delegate also declared that the country was never asked about the M16 investigation. Canada then offered aid and helped reduce further effects to the country of Germany.

“Nuclear power is the one stabbing us in our backs,” Ochoa, said.

The delegate of Germany questioned if nuclear power should be eradicated. The delegates of Vietnam and Australia highlighted that some countries depend nuclear energy as an economy and expressed concern of the economic backlash that would be done. Likewise, the delegate of Japan, asserted that nuclear energy is the hope for the future.

Both delegates of Belarus and United States proposed ways of precaution against nuclear reactors. In case an accident occurred, a large amount of water would be required to cool down the radiation plant. Protecting the rivers, having emergency teams prepared, having secure transportation, would be some of the options that could be used in this protection plan. The United States delegate declared that human errors do occur, plant workers need to be fully trained and monthly revised to see their health.

The delegates of Germany and Luxembourg presented a press release which explained how Luxemburg would still aid Germany with the amount of energy provided. The “International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophes would take place two times a year for prevention. If nuclear accidents happen and countries such as Germany, Luxemburg, New Zealand and Australia are affected, the responsable country would have to pay for damages.

The Delegates of the United States and Russia were the heads of the second treaty and explained how nuclear energy would still be used but with more advanced policies such as seismic and flooding protection. Ultimately the voting ended with 21 delegates in favor for US and Russian treaty, 5 against and 2 absent.
