Techo Getting a Hand from the Foundation

Two emergency homes were built during Techo, thanks to the help from the school foundation on recollecting money. On the weekend of May 19th and 20th, Techo was able to start building two emergency homes for low income families.

The foundation played an important role on the gathering of the ten million pesos needed to achieve this goal. Techo visits marginalized or very poor areas in Medellin to build homes or different buildings for the community. Money is a big deal when it comes to accomplish what is planned. TCS foundation helped by organizing different campaigns, events, and even raffles in order for Techo organization to meet their expectations.

“The foundation gave Techo two million pesos that were collected during Copa Columbus, Churros and Chef Burguer profited it,” Andrés Rendón, High School Counselor and Techo organizer, confirmed,

Copa Columbus was an effective way to gather money, since it was organized by the foundation, more than six hundred people were buying food and all the profit went directly to this cause.

“All restaurants that come to sell their food in Copa Columbus have to give the foundation 20% of their earnings. Techo had a proposal, so we decided to give this two million pesos collected to them,” Mary Luz Meza, TCS Foundation manager, said.

The foundation also sold tickets for a raffle last week in which the winner would win a free trip with Viva Colombia Airlines, donated by a High School student. Each individual ticket had a cost of ten thousand pesos and they were all sold out.

“With the raffle, we were able to collect three million pesos more, the foundation received the money, counted it, and then gave it to us,” said the HS counselor, Andrés Rendón.

Out of the ten million pesos needed, the foundation and Techo were able to collect eight million pesos and build the 2 emergency homes on Granizal.

“Helping Techo was a great opportunity to grow as a school community, it was also evident that we are there to support each other, and to provide any help needed. We achieved that goal through hard work and dedication, ” Mary Luz Meza proudly explained.
