Is Synthetic Really Worth It?

The newest addition for the Columbus School is the synthetic soccer field with the plan to add up to three more, if the current ones are popular among the TCS community.

It was finished almost a month ago and it is located near the high school cafeteria where the other courts would be built. The new synthetic soccer field was built which cost the school 200 million pesos becoming the first out of four soccer fields in The Columbus School’s plans.

“We do not want to spend 200 and something million pesos in a field that will not be used collectively which is the price that cost us to build the synthetic soccer field [whose] money comes from the parents in the enrollments and the monthly payment you pay. The school with the money designates a part for investments then with the other part the fields are made [like other future constructions].” Juan Fernando Mesa director of general services says.

Some students were excited to hear the news that a different and modern soccer field was being built in the school creating popularity even before the construction was done.

“In my opinion the synthetic soccer field is one of the best things that has happened to school because although a lot of people play soccer there’s no space to play in, this is a new level of soccer and it just reaches our expectations. Also, it is very good because we prefer playing in a synthetic field than in the colosseum.” Tomás Mejía 11th grade student says.

On the other hand, there are students that don’t care about this new construction in a personal way and from an economic standpoint giving the school critiques because of this decision.

“I really don’t like to play soccer so I think is unnecessary money that the school is spending on such a big plan that could be spent in other projects. Also, [our parents] are paying a big part of the huge number it cost so i don’t think is that fair.” Esteban Arango 11th grade student says

Only time will tell whether or not popularity is reach and if it will be enough so more than one synthetic soccer field can be built.

“[It] depends a lot on the use and demand that the people make to see if we continue to build more synthetic soccer fields.” Mesa says.
