Welcome Message from Ms. Ruth Allen – Mensaje de Bienvenida de Ms. Ruth Allen

Welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year.  A year in which we continue to celebrate our 70 year anniversary and in which we also look forward to an exciting and innovative future.

In this first semester we have a number of events which reflect this.  October will see not only the Homecoming  event where we will no doubt enjoy moments of nostalgia but it will also be the month in which we host the first Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM) event in Colombia, an event in which our students will  connect with the local community, with experts from a variety of fields and with partner institutions including  EIA University and Comité de Rehabilitación to make a real difference in the world. (Check out this link for more information).

This sense of Columbus School students being true changemakers was highlighted by our seniors this year as they entered school with the slogan “We are Invincible”.  The word invincible brings to mind the notion of a warrior, someone who cannot be beaten and brings with it a sense of optimism and strength.  However, if we stop to analyze those who have considered themselves invincible throughout history, the unfortunate truth is that this invincibility is often short-lived.  Those who count their success in material terms (whether that be the conquering heroes of old or the global enterprises of today) all find that sooner or later those riches, that material wealth is either taken from them or  not of true value.  The only enduring invincibility is in character and wisdom.  What you learn cannot be taken from you – an investment in learning leaves a permanent legacy.  But the most significant sense of invincibility is found in integrity.  If your life is grounded in universal values;  if your actions are in line with these concepts, whatever may occur around you is immaterial – you and what you stand for will be invincible.

Warm regards,

We are Invincible: Somos invencibles”.

Saludo caluroso,
