A$ap Rocky, a rapper known for his catchy wave, weird beats and hype lyrics dropped his last album TESTING released May 25, 2018. Ever since this colorful album was released it has deservingly skyrocketed up in the billboard charts. This 15 track album contains a versatile style full of wavy beats that will make you question the new angle of Hip Hop and anyone with a ear for different music or anyone searching for the new wave will most definitely find this masterpiece incredible. The talented artist has also managed to get some impresfull features like, Kid Cudi and Frank Ocean.

TESTING is the perfectly reflects A$ap’s style and vibe. The beats in the album are the spaceship and the lyrics are the planet, in other words the beats complement the lyrics perfectly in order to provide a full blown experience. Listening to TESTING feels like what I imagine doing psychedelic drugs feels like. The music is so immersive that any listener needs to give the album 100% of his/her attention in order to receive the full experience.

A$ap Rocky is all about the new waves and experimenting with sounds, so if you are expecting another pop catchy song then this is not the album for you. If you are an open minden avid listener then prepare yourself for a completely new experience as Rocky is a pioneer for new sounds. In an interview with GQ, A$AP said that this album is really about experimentation with new sounds: “People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what’s current, ‘cause it’s the easy thing to do. I don’t just rap – I actually make music. That’s why it takes time. These sonics represent me.” Listening to this album is like getting inside the rappers head, every song represents a pigment of his mind vividly.

A$ap, is not really comparable in the industry as there aren’t really artists that relate to his style and flow. The only rapper comparable would be Trippie Redd and not even because the music has a similar style but because the provide with the same emotion. They are both artist known for their trippy and weird music, nevertheless A$ap Rocky is definitely the better rapper as he has something Trippie does not; the lyrical ability. So if you are into Trippie then chances are you will like A$ap.

My favorite track on the album was definitely, “Purity” featuring Frank Ocean. The track perfectly reflects the whole album as it has a wavy beat and lyrics that will make you bop your head. The song is about pure things in life, and how we are corrupted by useless things like social media and small problems. Also deals with drug problems and how it is so “cool” for new era rappers to smoke and do different drugs however Rock addresses this in the song. But what makes it my favorite track of the album is the perfect collaboration between the two artists, Frank has perfect vocals that can relax a bull on cocaine, and A$ap just makes the whole song wavy and gives it an outer space vibe.

I would one hundred percent recommend the album to any open minded music listener. It has all the components for some looking for new musics: new style beats, flawless flow and geniusly constructed lyrics. Streaming the album is totally worth it as if you are already a fan you will not be disappointed, and if you are new there is a big chance you’ll get hooked on the up and coming artist.
