COSMUN Preparations Reach Final Stage

COSMUN preparations have reached the final stages with the ceremony Tuesday afternoon in the Upper Elementary Coliseum being attended by hundreds of delegates from schools all over Colombia.

The COSMUN Model United Nations will be hosted by The Columbus School April 10-12. With less than two days left for the ceremony, the final wave of preparations for the ceremony start closing in. Some of these preparations include delegates planning their portfolios as well as the chores that the presidents and vice presidents from each committee must fulfill.

“At this point, we have to have everything fully prepared, we have already finished all the guides that we have to make available for COSMUN participants and we have to have had researched the information so we know what we’re doing as well as finished the documents of our committee so people can research it,” Felipe Santamaría, President of the UNODC Commission, said.

The chair has also made changes in order to make the ceremony even better, this includes changes in the overall experience for the delegates as well as changes to improve upon the opening ceremony in order to one up the ceremonies from past years.

“This year we specifically wanted for the opening ceremony to be more active and more lively as we know that in past years it has become a bit dull because of things such as the long periods of time some guest speakers take, so we really want somebody that interests the people,” Alejandro Escobar, COSMUN Sub Secretary General, said.

In addition to these changes, expectations for the ceremony start generating in order to meet the whole goal of the chair. These expectations include how the delegates will perceive the ceremony in general as well as the overall performance of the new committees added to the chair this year.

“We have various new committees this year and we are really excited for them, for example we have the international military tribunal which is sort of a continuation of last year’s Adjoined Crisis Committee, the World Health Organization, the Arab league and the Adjoined Election Committee, we are really excited for all of these committees and we believe that this is a way to innovate the model,” Escobar added.

The preparations for the MUN have currently shown to be successful, showing big promise and big excitement for the delegates as well as for everyone looking forward on the ceremony. This is reflected in the inscriptions, as many committees already have a couple of delegates.
