Say Goodbye to the Office and Hello to Your Kitchen Table

According to the US Census, the amount of people working from home has been increasing in the past 19 years and is expected to continue growing. When one is faced with a job, he or she is faced with a schedule, productivity expectations, and a professional performance on the assigned task. Many have come to the question: Is it better working from home or in an office? And how will it affect us later? It is clear to say that working from home is the future of work for millions of people.

To begin with, working at home gives the employees the freedom to choose their working environment. According to CNBC, “The traditional eight-hour workday has gone the way of the cassette tape with many employees routinely staying past 5 p.m. and remotely checking in with the office well into the night.” Staying at the office can make the job way more stressful and the environment in the office gets the employees on their nerves. This is why, a well-established working environment at home may bring more focus, productivity, and relief for workers. Many people stay the whole day at the office and have trouble getting home and resting without thinking about work. People in the future will seek a prosperous working environment to be more effective, stress-relieved and to be able to manage their time wisely, therefore, they will look up to remote working.

As we all seek free time, working at home will bring a much more flexible schedule to employees. Buffer, a business dedicated to helping others grow businesses in social media, have developed many surveys concerning remote working. In one of them, they got the result that 43% of them believe that the greatest benefit of remote working is a flexible schedule. Nowadays we are required to work 25 years in Colombia to be able to retire, receive a pension and have free time, away from our enslaving work schedule of 8 hours or more per day with a stressful agenda. Working remotely gives everyone the chance to manage their day, their life and their money.

People that work at home, have more economic freedom. Some companies, increase employee´s that work from home salaries since that would be the money used to pay the office, the space, the light, and all of the bills that an office requires. Fundera Bussiness says that only in office space, charges are from $100 to $1000 dollars per month per employee. Imagine having those extra 1000 dollars! With more money on your hands, prosperity is one step closer.

For some specific jobs, being at the office is much better. Jose Londoño, an office worker stated, “Whenever I go to the office, I feel the social pressure of working with my colleagues. As I see everyone working, it motivates me to work. Also, I need to be constantly interacting with my boss and doing it in person is way better than waiting for the online response. Plus, I don’t like loneliness in my house.” Unbiasly speaking, working at an office may be necessary for many people and preferable for many companies. But those who are capable of working remotely can get a huge advantage towards their lifestyle.

To finish off, it is important to show the new generations the benefits of working from home and they may as well adopt this lifestyle and take a step further into the future. Mehmet Oz once said, “Your genetics load the gun, your lifestyle pulls the trigger.” Don’t be afraid to pull the trigger and give remoteness a chance. Soon, most of the people will be turning to remote jobs as they make you more productive, saves and manages your time freely, and you save a lot of money.
