As Technology Advances, Cheating Expands

Latest technological advancements has led to the easy access of unauthorized information in a form of academic dishonesty. Each day more institutes are building cheaters by  embracing online courses as a result of evolving education. The promotion of diversity and a open minded community is increasing negligence in students an a inadequate way of using technological devices.

Teaching digital literacy skills by online courses incentivize an unhealthy use of the internet. Online courses systems are created so education can be delivered in cheaper and in easier way, but the reality is that technological freedom is  forming students with faulty moral values.

Using the internet to utilize information improperly is not only cheating in academic aspects but cheating to the students own learning and thinking capacity. Teens state they believe that “too many” of their peers are using the internet to cheat. This issue not only involves  the misguided way of using online information but the need for systems to catch and avoid cheating do to the amount of faults that are seen daily in schools and online courses.

Plagiarism is a very common fraud  seen in students in schools do to the facilities given by technology. Cheating has developed into a way of easy communication among students during school, increasing plagiarism by sharing information to complete work with any effort required. The effortless way of copying others work has enlarged mediocrity and shape indiferent students. The Columbus School teachers agree that the ability to know the answer to  every question with any intellectual demand has developed a bad habit and a negative reliance in regards of creating a self judgement.

Parents have  big roles as well in the easy approach to  technological devices and internet of their adolescents. Actual  permissive parents promote children’s addiction and dependence to this devices that affect children’s character in regards to falsificate information found online, shaping impostors. Since technology has advanced, its popularity and accessibility has grown as well, according to Hitlin, Paul; Rainie, Lee, “Teen use of the internet at school has grown 45% since 2000.” As time evolves, opinions, data  and knowledge is updated and recalled with facility giving students quickness to access to any type of data.

Cheating has increased among students because of easy access to technology. This fault to the students academic development and moral values must stop by  promoting a healthy use of the information found online. The internet should be used as a intellectual strength to build a strong opinion instead of using it as a tool for laziness.
