An app for every music enthusiast

We can all agree that having your music interrupted by an ad is utterly annoying; not being able to choose your songs, or listen to them without WiFi is pretty terrible too. But having an immense number of playlists to choose from, more than 30 million songs to discover and enjoy, and being able to share your musical taste with your friends sounds amazing. Like any other thing in this world, Spotify has its ups and downs, but the truth is all of these things make this app the cream of the crop when it comes to the audio streaming industry worldwide.

Introducing itself in 2006, Spotify has grown to be the most used music app in the world. With more than 2 billion playlists and presence in 61 countries worldwide, this app is known by every single music enthusiast, artist, record, etc. Sure, there are many more music apps in the market, but none of them convey a melodic approach to our lives like this Swedish app does.

To begin, Spotify has a very nice platform compared to various others in the app store and google play store. Soundcloud, for instance, is another music app that also has a nice, user-friendly platform, with catchy colors and rapid button responses. Between them, I’d definitely choose Spotify due to the fact that it’s a much bigger and better-organized database, focusing on every single detail possible; SoundCloud focuses more on recent trends, new artists, and showing the world that you don’t need to be Justin Bieber or Drake for people to hear your music. It’s made for creators. Spotify has a platform that is extremely user-friendly, with many optimizations and updates that allow the user to navigate through the app smoothly and the way it’s intended. The button responses are fast, and the app just feels very clean and snappy.

Nonetheless, it’s important for an app to be accessible to many people, allowing them to get to know the app and experience it in a broad and complete way; this is not the case with Spotify. This app has 2 versions of it, one free, and the other one “premium” for which you need to pay a fee of $9.99 – $14.99 a month. The free version has everything the paid version includes, all the playlists, songs, and other items available to you. The thing is, it doesn’t have an offline mode available, not allowing the user to download his/her songs, to be able to listen whilst they are on their car, plane, or without a WiFi connection. If you are not a Spotify premium user, be ready to spend all of your mobile data on this app

Additionally, due to the huge popularity the app has gotten, many people have switched apps to become Spotify users. More than 160 million monthly users and 75 million paid subscribers allow this platform to have a massive community. This network of users allows a platform to literally develop itself. This means that people have some freedom to create within the app and thus using it will lead to more content creation and development; more playlists, stations, podcasts, and so on. Who wouldn’t like to have your own playlists heard by others? Or listening to what your friends have put together? This is a possibility granted by Spotify, which pairs up with Facebook to allow users to find their friends much easier, follow them, and be able to know what they are listening to, or what’s the new trending artist around your social group; the possibilities are infinite.

In an app like this variety plays a key role in its content. A music app can’t afford to have a small amount of diversity between its content, because people get bored of the same monotonous things, including genres and songs. Luckily, this isn’t the case with Spotify, now that it has a huge variety when it comes to genres, artists, and even types of audios, which include podcasts, songs and radio stations. Being the enormous rhythmic potpourri that it is, Spotify delivers much of the music industry of the last decades, giving more than enough content to its users to fulfill their musical desires.

All in all, the Swedish app does have some notable cons like any other platform, but from what I’ve experienced, the pros outweigh the negatives massively, and my personal experience has been almost perfect. It’s no coincidence that this app tops the lists when it comes to the number of users, daily streamings, artists involved, and a whole bunch of categories that any other app would die to rank in. If you are a fan of music and are looking for an app to fulfill your daily needs and fit your lifestyle, give this one a chance, and it will surely surprise you.
