The New Library at The Columbus School

The new library at The Columbus School is under construction, its purpose is to support students and TCS staff members on their daily live.

Currently, the library is being designed by staff members, students and even school parents to maximize the space given by the administration in every sense.

Connie feels that as the school develops, she also develops at personal and academic skills. She shows herself much more interested on the evolution of the environment that helps every single student than in her personal life given the fact that she dedicates a lot of her time to students.

“Ever since I started working here at The Columbus School, I’ve wished for a space were the students could feel comfortable to work, learn and interact,” Connie Gonzalez, Head Librarian, said.

The school is known to have a large variety of students from different races, languages, and countries, this is why as the school grows in population, its facilities also need to grow in space.

“What we are looking for is to have a space were every single student feels comfortable and has all the tools needed for academic and or self learning processes,” Gonzalez said.

The new library is going to be approximately 500 meters in comparison to the present one which only counts with approximately 300 meters destined to be exploited to fulfill every need students have.

“Sometimes we feel crowded inside the existing library, but now that the new library is a reality, I feel that life on us, students, is going to be much easier,” Juan Jose  Bernal, Eleventh grade student, said.

We as students should take advantage of every source the school provides us. Connie would like for us to keep on visiting the library every single day and taking advantage of it.

“The location of the current library is on a place where students are forced to pass every day besides it, we are worried that the new location, would make the students forget about the importance of going to the library,” Gonzalez said.

Everyone has high expectations about the library, it is going to be a crucial and very innovative evolution for The Columbus School Community.

“Students and staff members will be able to give use to this library and all its facilities in between September and the beginnings of October,” Connie Gonzalez said.
