Shotgun Baby

The newest member of the TCS community has already brought a good amount of trouble to his parents, as he was born in the car on the way to the hospital.

The birth of Luciano Naranjo was a pleasant, yet early, surprise to his parents, Andrea Fernandez, former student of TCS and wife of Felipe Naranjo 11th grade philosophy teacher. Naranjo claimed that the situation wasn’t so worrying as most people might think.

“When we were going down we never thought that the baby was going to be born in the car and when he was born we saw that he was doing well so we didn’t have time to get worried,” Naranjo said.

Even though the baby wasn’t born in the recommended circumstances, Felipe and Andrea have said that he is really healthy. Fernandez was really prepared for the situation using the internet and social media to get informed.

“My wife read a lot about childbirth, followed a lot of childbearing video pages, so she was really prepared for the act, so when the baby was born she was an expert,” Naranjo said.

Doctors recommend a lot of different exercises and diets not only for the baby to be healthy but also so the birth could be easier. Fernandez was remarkably prepared for what was to come.

“I did yoga all pregnancy (as I usually do), ate a very balanced vegetarian diet as usual and waited patiently. I followed Instagram pages on natural births and watched them constantly to get an idea of how it would be. Thankfully I was able to see two car births and somehow learned what to do in that situation,” Fernandez said.

When the baby was about to be born, Naranjo claimed that all he could do was drive and give support to his wife, but he said that he was never truly worried now that he knew that his wife was prepared for the childbirth.

“I got ready for the baby by being there for her and giving her whatever she needed but the one who really had to prepare was my wife. She did yoga and she was a ballerina so she is really flexible and the doctors recommend that a lot,” Naranjo said.

Luciano`s parents talked about the experience of having the baby claiming that the process wasn’t as tough as the aftermath.

“The birth wasn’t really tough. I thought the pain was going to get worse every time so that kept me thinking I had to be brave because it would increase. It did hurt though. The first days with the baby were tougher for me than giving birth really,” Fernandez said.

Fernandez claimed she was ready to give birth, and as Luciano came to the world, the prepared mother said her first words to him.

“We had a baby in our hands. Felipe kept driving because he saw I could handle the situation. The pain stopped immediately; I grabbed the baby and softly told him “it’s okay, you are here now, hi Luciano”,” Fernandez said.
