“Senado de la Republica” , The newest commision at COSMUN.

Norberto Villa, The Columbus Schools 10th grade Spanish teacher, has been involved is the school’s UN model for 10 years and invites everyone to join the newest commission that he is sponsor of.

After assisting to the UN model of “Colegio Británico”, he was astonished with the good flow in their “senado de la República” committee, and the good debates going on.

Because of this, last year he implemented the same committee in the Columbus School model. “I decided to apply it in the school, after seeing the debates go so well in the commission of the Colegio Británico” says Villa.

As he claims, COSMUN is not only for debating important global issues, but also for practicing and improving on aspects like language.

“I have always believed that language is connected in everything that happens in the model” says Norberto Villa.

He invites the students to look from within and learn about Colombia and its internal conflicts. “Unlike the other commissions, this one invites each individual to not simply represent a nation, but a member of the a party of the Senado colombiano.”  states Villa

Isabela Murillo, the vice president of Senado de la República, gave us a sneak peak of what the committee is going to be all about. “ This commission  has three topics, unlike the other ones that have only two. We have three,  because the topics in the committee flow very fast”  says Murillo. She states that the topics will be “proyecto de ley, medidas anti-corrupción”, “fast track”(unknown until january 2018, and “Reforma de la justicia, Santos campaign”.

The 11th grade student and vice-president  insists to all of  the students interested in Colombian politics to join this committee. She also leaves some advice for the new delegates.

“Be very prepared in order to properly embody the politician you choose. Also be really careful about the position of he/she holds towards the topics.” says Isabela Murillo.

“COSMUN had never had a commision focusing on Colombian issues only, but we have recently added one and we hope it will be very enriching for the model” says Maria Jose Rico, sub-secretary of Cosmun.
