MedeGIN was an event held at TCS in 2016; its name was inspired by joining both the program and the city’s name it was taken place on. It was an international conference that properly informed other school the ideas and projects implemented at the school and a way to acquire knew insight about global issues concerning things such as the environment, which is one the most crucial topics regarding the TCS community to improve.

“The experience of attending this conference is rather exciting, you get to meet new people and make friends, learn a lot about the ideas that Global Issues Network is trying to convey around the world,” Manuela Maldonado GV leader at GIN, said.

The conferences is one of the most important things GIN  has to offer since members of the program prepare for that moment all year.

“People often join in the beginning and miss the rest the year gatherings since they hear about the conferences and a few choose to stay and continue on the program,” Andrea Fernandez GV leader said.

As many students do this for interest and dedication to the program, many others join with no clue as to what GIN is and do it to attend the conferences. This could be seen as positive thing as the students are eager to hear about what other schools have in mind, but also seen as negative since half of the people that join don’t know the purpose or current position of GIN.

“I assisted both the local and international team always feeling passionate about conference planning; both were some of the best experience of my life so leaving hurts me,” Said Eliana Lopez, 11th grade TCS student.

With her head held high Lopez left GIN as she claims it is no longer a passion she thrives. Many may be interested and intrigued by the conferences but others get tired of its monotony. Perhaps this was reviewed by the program, as the avoid a departure of such eager students, therefore the conference being done this year will cause a controversial experience to anyone attending.

“There are different groups such as logistics and ambassadors that are the ones that present the project that helps their community to the conference.” Said Maldonado, as she explained the importance of each role at the conference. She then portrays her personal experience as she prepares for upcoming conference. “I am a GV leader that is in charge to present to people attending the conference and show the around.” “One of the most crucial parts of GIN is to prepare for the conference as we are thoroughly doing this year that will take place here at TCS, it is estimated that it will only last one day, in comparison to last year that lasted three day,” concluded Maldonado.
