CIP Robotics Team Prepares to Succeed

October 31, 2016

The CIP Robotics team has doubled its size and is learning from last year’s mistakes to improve in this year’s competition.  The team is repeating last year’s challenge and learning the basics of robotics.

The CIP Robotics team didn’t have the highest ranking in last year’s competition, held in the U.S., and they want to improve their strategy. The goal is to up their game this year, so they are reviewing the basic robotics, looking for sponsors and reviewing their performance in last year’s challenge.

“Right now the CIP team is working every Saturday to learn the basics of robotics for the first robotics competition,” Andres Zuniga, team adviser, said.

In order to prepare for next year’s competition, the team members meet every Saturday morning to rebuild last year’s robot, taking into consideration the judges suggestions to improve their model.

“There are many different roles in this team. Some are technical, design and engineering and some are marketing, social media and finding sponsors. These are a just a few of all the thing that need to be done in order to make it to the regional in the States,” Zuniga said.

The team’s goal is to make it to regional finals. in the USA.  They have divided themselves into three small groups with different specialties such as programming, mechanics and marketing.

“In mechanics we are studying the way a robot moves and the different systems so we can build one in the future,” Diego Botin, 11th grade student and member of the mechanics team, said.

Members working on the mechanics study different systems in order to choose the best option for rebuilding the robot and preparing it for January, when they will receive their new challenge.

“I am really enjoying the robotics team, it is really interesting and we are learning a lot. My favorite part is learning about the traction systems,” Botin said.
