The Crisis in La Guajira

The Guajira is an undeveloped but beautiful place in the north of Colombia  inhabited by the indigenous population called the Wayuu. They were very accommodating and kind when we had our expedition there. They still have primal societies but are surprisingly advanced since they treat women equal to men. The biggest flaw in this region is the corruption and the lousy politics. An example is how El Cerrejon, the biggest mine in the north of Colombia, is an internacional mine and the state of Colombia only receives a small percentage. What’s worse is that little or none of that money goes to the natives and their prosperity. This could be fixed by choosing the politicians carefully next time and being aware about our extensive wildlife and care for it. Keeping wildlife in the region alive also depends on using less plastic and protecting natural habitats.
