This is what many of the landfills in La Guajira look like. This is called a non-sanitary, open landfill. La Guajira is located in the north of Colombia. The plastic brings many problems to the communities and to the environment. One of the problems that it brings is the harm that it causes the people. They have to live in that big mess and many times they go and collect plastic that can be used for something like getting water or re-selling gasoline from Venezuela. One solution to that is to make things that can be reused instead of disposable plastic, or things that are biodegradable so that it doesn’t have a negative impact on the communities.
