Our Trip to La Guajira

Over the last three years, three eighth grade groups went on a trip to La Guajira. In this trip we were mainly interested in helping the native community with resources and water. When we were there, the native people told us that the garbage that ended up in the desert was mostly because the desert wind blew the trash away, and if it didn’t it ended up in the ocean.  We wanted to not be a detriment to the environment. So to help, we brought plastic bags that we stuffed all the trash into and threw them away in Medellin because know that La Guajira doesn’t have a reliable waste system so we made sure no waste was left or would end up in the desert. Besides that, we worked with a travel agency that organized it so that nothing would be served in styrofoam or disposable plastic.
