La Guajira, a Paradise of Plastic

La Guajira is a really beautiful place with a lot of beautiful biodiversity. La Guajira is a department in the north of Colombia. Colombia is a country in South America. The biodiversity of  La Guajira, sadly, is being damaged because the plastic is being badly managed.

In La Guajira live the Wayuu, which are indigenous people that lived there from a long time ago. La Guajira is a desert, which means there is not a lot of water. The Wayuu have been affected because there is a lot by plastic and the plastic is contaminating their water and their ecosystems. Not only the Wayuu, are affected, also the animals that live there. There are a lot of beautiful animals in La Guajira. Flamingos, lizards, birds, goats, cows, frogs and a lot of more animals live there. Imagine the damage that the plastic is making to them. A lot of times this animals do not know what plastic is and eat it accidentally. Most of the times they die when eating the

plastic. This of course is very sad because the animals are dying, and they can begin to extinct if we do not take act.

This are not the only affected. Also the tourism is affected. If the tourists start to see this kinds of views, they are not going to come back, and also they are going to tell other people to not go because it’s ugly and it’s full of plastic. No one would like to go there. These would affect a lot the economy of La Guajira, and bring a lot of bad consequences. La Guajira is already underdeveloped, and without tourism it could be worse.

These are all the consequences that the plastic gives to La Guajira. Such a beautiful place being damaged by plastic. This place should not be like this. A possible solution is to change of government, and give the idea to stop selling plastic in La Guajira, because is damaging it. Another solution is to stop purchasing plastic. By doing this, the people from the stores are going to notice that they are not buying plastic, so they are going to stop selling it and sell glass for example. With these solution we can help La Guajira, a “Paradise of Plastic,” even though it does not deserve to have plastic.
